The HSE has welcomed the High Court decision in relation to St Michael’s Acute Mental Health Unit in Clonmel.

The Hospital Action Committee had sought to prevent the HSE from removing acute psychiatric services from South Tipperary to Kilkenny.

A statement from the HSE in the wake of Friday's ruling says the body will now finalise plans for ending admissions to St. Michael’s.

It will also begin the transfer of acute in-patient mental health services to St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny.

The Health Service Executive says they will however ensure that all the appropriate community based services are in place before the cessation of any service in Clonmel.
