The position of Registrar has been vacant since early last year following a retirement forcing locals to travel to other offices in the county.
Last June the Health Service Executive informed local TD Michael Lowry that arrangements were being made to fill the post.
For a time staff were deployed from the Civil Registration offices in Nenagh and Roscrea to provide part time cover in Thurles.
However this was curtailed as the HSE felt there was not enough demand in Thurles as well as the added pressure placed on the offices in Roscrea and Nenagh by having staff re-deployed.
Instead all Civil Registration services were diverted to the other North Tipp offices which meant that people needing assistance with registering births, marriages, civil partnerships and deaths in the Thurles area have to travel to Nenagh or Roscrea.
Deputy Lowry has been informed in recent days that replacement clerical posts have been approved – the HSE say they will be re-establishing a 3 day per week service in Thurles early this year.
