The HSE is appealing to those only with genuine emergencies to attend the ED at South Tipp General today.
Managment says there has been sustained pressure on the Emergency Department in recent days and its asking people to seek medical advice from their GP or Caredoc before attending the Clonmel hospital.
Today the hospital has 37 patients on trolleys or chairs – the second highest in the country.
In a statement to Tipp FM a spokesperson added that due to increased level of activity at the health facility, a number of non-emergency inpatient proceedures have been postponed or rescheduled.
However management insist those patients will be contacted with a new appointment date as soon as possible and appologies for any inconvenience caused.
