A Tipperary man is awaiting a court appearance next month as he bids to keep his home.
Just before Christmas An Bord Pleanala rejected an appeal Sean Meehan for retention of his timber clad mobile home at Woodinstown near New Inn.
He had lodged the appeal following Tipperary County Council’s decision not to grant permission.
Sean was previously taken to court for failing to remove the dwelling from his land.
Despite this ruling from An Bord Pleanala the pensioner is hoping a solution can still be found.
“I’m back up in court again on the 13th of next month so look I’m going to have to try and speak to my solicitor and see if we can come up with an amicable solution to this problem for both sides.
“I can appeal their decision – now I don’t know how that’s going to work out. I think the way things are going I think this is the way it has to be – they want it taken down.”
Sean told Tipp Today that his wish is to live out his days in peace but says his battle is taking a huge toll on him with an outlay of €15,000 so far.
“I worked and I squirreled away a few quid and I said okay for the latter years of my life as I get older. Like mentally and financially they’re hammering me into the ground at all turns. I’m 66, coming on 67 in April. There has to be a compromise here somewhere. Are they dead set on making me homeless – putting me in under the West Gate with the other boys in there?”
