The Department of Integration are no longer considering an offer of a prominent building in Cahir for use as an IPAS centre.
There has been much speculation in recent weeks about the future use of Abbey House on the Tipperary Road.
The new owners of the property had applied for a Section 5 exemption to use the building as an accommodation centre for asylum seekers.
However Tipperary County Council has refused this.
Local Councillor Máirín McGrath updated Tipp Today on the situation this morning.
“It was back in the court of the owners at that stage – they had four weeks to appeal that decision to An Bord Pleanala.
“Last week then we got confirmation that no appeal was submitted. So I duly contacted the Department (of Integration) to inform them that the owners are not entitled to the exemption and to consider that in relation to the contract.
“So they contacted elected representatives the other evening to confirm the the offer of accommodation is no longer being considered for that building.”
