Local TD Michael Lowry says An Post has confirmed the sale of its former premises in Liberty Square.
The building has been vacant since services relocated to Thurles Shopping Centre in 2019 despite considerable local opposition.
The property was put on the market early last year.
Deputy Lowry outlines the future plans for the old Post Office.
“An Post has confirmed to me the sale of its former premises on Liberty Square in Thurles.
“Contracts have been agreed with a Kilkenny based company. The new owners intends a very substantial investment to repurpose the building into private rental accommodation.
“This will be a welcome addition to the housing stock particularly for those struggling to find starter accommodation in the Thurles area.”
“I welcome the sale as this building has not been occupied for some years. It is a listed building which is currently in poor condition. It will require substantial investment to reconfigure and convert it into living accommodation.
“The government is currently designing a further scheme to encourage the redevelopment of town houses and to make our urban areas living centres again.”
