Single people who are looking for Tipperary County Council housing are being left in limbo due to the lack of available accommodation locally.
Councillors are calling on the local authority to relax the rules about who can qualify for different sizes of houses.
A number of local representatives have asked that people who are approved for two-beds should be allowed to express interest in a three-bed home if it becomes available in their area.
But Labour Cllr Fiona Bonfield says people who are qualified for single occupancy have literally nowhere to go.
Meanwhile derelict buildings in Tipperary’s towns and villages are being targeted so they can be converted into one and two-bedroom apartments for council tenants.
It’s emerged that the new Vacancy and Dereliction Team are planning to identify buildings in each local district.
Newport based Councillor Bonfield has been highlighting the issue where there is no housing available for people who are qualified for local authority housing but are only looking for a single bed property so they are left languishing on the housing list.
