Fears for pay-by-weight bin charges on vulnerable people

It’s feared the introduction of pay-by-weight bin charges in Tipperary could impact on those with serious medical needs.

Waste collection companies will have to introduce the new charges by March 1st next.

There is a provision in the legislation for a waiver scheme for those with certain medical needs which result in extra waste being produced.

Clonmel Councillor Michael Murphy is concerned that the scheme is not yet in place – he has raised the issue with Environment Minister Denis Naughton.
