Tipperary and at least eight other counties have seen new records set for April temperatures today.

Met Éireann says preliminary readings from stations in the Premier County, along with Mayo, Galway, Roscommon, Kerry, Dublin, Clare, Meath, and Cavan all saw new highs.

The official station at Gurteen registered 23.6C.

The previous record in Tipperary was 21C in this month back in 2019.

The national forecaster also says that provisionally, this is now only the second time in Irish climate records that shaded air temperatures have gone above 25 degrees during the month of April, and consequently the 2nd earliest climatological Summer Day.
