Temperatures reached 28.3 degrees in Ardfert, in Co Kerry, while at Shannon Airport temperatures rose to 27.8 degrees, which broke the 1997 May record for the station.

But as the sunshine continues, the Irish Cancer Society is warning everyone to take precautions and protect your skin against the sun's dangerous UV rays.
