Now it would appear that this will finally become a reality after many false dawns along the way.

Planning permission was granted by the local council earlier this year for the new school to be built at Tinvane on the Waterford Road.

An appeal to An Bord Pleanala has now been withdrawn clearing the way for the project to proceed.

Board of Management member Margaret Croke says its positive news not just for the pupils and staff of Comeragh College but for the town of Carrick on Suir as a whole.

The new school will cater for 500 students with school principal Kevin Langton saying it will be a different world compared to what pupils and staff are working with at present.
