The doctor at the health clinic in Bansha, which has over 2,000 patients, is due to retire in the New Year – however no applications to take over the practice have been received by the HSE.
A case is to be put to the HSE Executive by the Area Manager for the allowance, which covers the cost of running a practice in rural areas, to be reinstated for Bansha.
A public meeting on the issue is to be held on Friday night in the GAA hall
Tipperary Independent TD Michael Lowry says he's confident that the allowance will be reinstated for the West Tipperary village.
He says if a new doctor is not found before then, the HSE will put interim measures in place.
