The news has been welcomed by the Cathaoirleach of the County Council who says it has the potential to create new businesses.
Eir – one of Ireland's National Broadband providers – will be rolling out a 1 gigabyte service to 3,250 new homes and businesses in the Premier County during 2017.
They are in the Clonmel, Kilsheelan, Tipperary, Dundrum, Cappawhite, Thurles, Rossoulty and Nenagh areas.
Welcoming the news Councillor Siobhán Ambrose said that she is constantly raising the issue of the lack of both broadband and mobile coverage in many parts of Tipperary.
She says this will be of huge benefit to both businesses and homeowners in the 8 areas some of whom have limited coverage and others have no coverage at all.
The Cathaoirleach also feels that this announcement may enable some people to consider setting up new businesses from their homes or in their local areas as they will now have access to high speed broadband which is essential for all businesses.
This may in turn lead to employment opportunities in these areas.
