The woman is being kept on life support, against the wishes of her family, over concerns for the constitutional rights of her unborn baby.

The family of a brain dead pregnant woman are today waiting for a decision to be reached by a panel of 3 judges in the high court this afternoon.

The woman in her 20’s who has 2 other children, was put on life support over three weeks ago, after she suffered serious brain trauma.

She was declared brain dead on the 3rd of December, when she was 14 weeks pregnant.

However, doctors – refused to turn off the life support, against the wishes of her parents – as they were worried about the constitutional rights of the unborn foetus.

Earlier this week the woman's family and her partner told the court it's their wish for her life support to be terminated, as the prospect of survival of the foetus is minimal, and they want her to die with dignity.

A judgement on the case is expected at midday.
