The judge in the trial of an Offaly GP accused of her daughter’s manslaughter is continuing to sum up the evidence for the jury.
Bernadette Scully denies being grossly negligent in giving her an excessive dose of a sedative at their home at Emvale, Bachelor’s Walk in Tullamore.
Bernadette Scully’s daughter Emily was born with profound disabilities in December 2000 and suffered daily fits.
In the hours leading up to her death on the morning of Sept 15th 2012, her mother gave her four doses of Chloral hydrate to try and control her seizures
Bernadette testified that her 11-year-old daughter stopped breathing after the final dose was administered.
This morning, Mr. Justice Patrick McCarthy picked up where he left off yesterday with a summary of the evidence heard during this trial.
He reminded the jurors of the vast medical evidence heard and the testimony of her partner Andrius, who called emergency services when he couldn’t wake Bernadette after realising Emily wasn’t breathing.
It later emerged she’d taken an overdose after an unsuccessful suicide attempt earlier in the day.
The jurors are expected to begin their deliberations at some stage today.
