More people have been treated on trolleys at University Hospital Limerick this week than in all of 2024 at University Hospital Waterford.
According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation 580 patients were left without a bed since Monday at UHL which is the main hospital for the mid-west including North Tipperary.
This compared with a total of 385 over the last 12 months at UHW which is the main hospital covering the south east.
Today is the least overcrowded day of the week at UHL according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation even though it is still the most overcrowded facility in the country with 98 patients on trolleys.
As part of the overflow from UHL there are 8 people without a bed at Nenagh Hospital while TUH in Clonmel has 9 patients on trolleys.
