People attending Cork University Hospital are paying the most for parking.
That’s according to a study conducted by Irish Country Living which shows huge discrepancies in what people are paying for parking while attending the Country’s hospitals.
Over €250,000 was paid by people using the car park at TUH in Clonmel.
In part one of their two week series, Irish Country Living conducted a detailed study on the variety of parking charges across the Country’s hospitals.
Cork University Hospital took in the most money from parking in 2023, at €2.2 million.
University Hospital Limerick earned €1.3 million.
When it comes to regional hospitals, University Hospital Kerry in Tralee had the highest income from parking at €497,397
Tipperary University Hospital in Clonmel took in just under €280,000.
The huge variety in prices charged across the country comes despite promises made by then Health Minister Simon Harris in 2020, that all hospital parking would be capped at €10 a day.
This is yet to happen.
When asked by Irish Country Living what the money is used for, the HSE stated that the money is an important stream of funding for hospitals, which could indicate that parking charges are going nowhere.
