The Health Minister has been asked to visit University Hospital Limerick to see first had the constant overcrowding at facility which serves North Tipperary.
The number of patients without a bed at has fallen slightly over the last 24 hours however it is still by far the most overcrowded again today.
According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation there are 108 patients on trolleys which is still more than twice as many as the next most overcrowded hospital which is University Hospital Galway with 51.
Limerick Senator Dee Ryan raised the issue in the Upper House this morning.
“The people of the mid-west are fed up. We’re fed up at the dangers that our loved ones face. We’re fed up at the intolerable work situations and conditions that our nurses our doctors and our hospital staff are working in.
“UHL is a Model 4 hospital – there are nine Model 4 hospitals in the country. They’re top of the range hospitals with expertise and facilities to cater to large catchment areas. Are you aware that every other Model 4 hospital in the country has at least one Model 3 hospital with a 24 hour A&E supporting it?”
In all 550 patients who have been admitted to hospitals across the country are on trolleys.
TUH in Clonmel has 12 people without a bed this afternoon.
