Recruitment process underway for Consultant Medical Ophthalmologist in South Tipp

The HSE has acknowledged the impact on both children and adults caused by the lack of a Community Ophthalmologist Physician serving South Tipperary.

The post became vacant last October with concerns raised by Councillor John O’Heney this week that the lack of an ophthalmologist in the area was forcing families to pay for private consultations for their children while also adding to lengthy waiting lists.

The process is currently under way to fill this post.

While this is ongoing, the HSE is exploring all options to enable ophthalmology services to resume on an interim level in Tipperary South.

For urgent eye care issues, patients from the Tipperary South area may be referred to the Eye Service via the Emergency Department pathway at University Hospital Waterford.
