Further questions over National Maternity Hospital

It’s emerged Simon Harris raised concerns about a conflict of interest in the governance of St Vincent’s Hospital in 2014 – long before controversy over the new National Maternity Hospital developed this week.

The current Minister for Health says the Government won’t go ahead with the planned facility on lands owned by the Sisters of Charity unless he’s convinced it’ll be free of religious interference among a number of other issues.

The revelations have added to pressure on the Government over the governance of the proposed new maternity hospital.

Labour’s health spokesperson – Tipperary TD Alan Kelly – says it proves the facility needs to be in public ownership.
