A series of vital blood donation clinics are taking place in Thurles this week.
According to the Irish Blood Transfusion Service supplies are worryingly low with demand continuing to rise month on month.
Clinics are being held at the Dome in Semple Stadium from this evening through until Thursday evening from 4.50pm to 8.10pm
Alex O’Connor from the IBTS says as well as regular donors they badly need new donors to volunteer.
“O negative blood stocks have become critically low and the IBTS are seeking the assistance of Thurles donors this week.
“Listeners will be aware the O negative blood is known as the universal blood type and is critical for emergencies where there is no time for ‘blood typing’ and is used in trauma centres and ambulances.
“Right now Irish supplies of O negative are particularly low and we urge any Thurles O negative donors to please make an appointment if you get a text from us.”
