A local hospital campaigner is not convinced that the appointment of a Regional Clinical Lead for Strategy and Development of health services will make much difference.

Tanya De Vito of the Mid-West Hospital Campaign and Nenagh Need’s It’s A&E Group was responding to Dr Terry Hennessy assuming responsibility for the strategic delivery of all acute and community clinical care services across the region.

She told Tipp Today that having heard Dr Hennessy on the programme yesterday she’s not convinced much will change.

“I wouldn’t have a lot of personal confidence in what he was saying. I understand what he’s on about with the consultant contracts but the difficulties are the overcrowding.

“When you asked about another Emergency Department the answer should have been whatever recommendations HIQA comes out with that’s what we’re going to do – and that wasn’t said. Its very concerning for the campaign because that’s one of the things that should have been said.”
