University Hospital Limerick has had to trigger its overcrowding protocol for all but two days of the last two years.
Nenagh based County Councillor Seamie Morris sought details at the most recent meeting of the Regional Health Forum.
The surge protocol is designed to be activated in the event of unusually high demand on emergency department services and beds.
Figures supplied by the HSE to Councillor Morris show that the system had to be put in place for every single day of 2023 while last year saw it activated on all but two days.
Among the actions taken are the transfer of suitable patients to Nenagh Hospital.
The response from the HSE Forum West to Seamie Morris show the surge protocol was triggered in Nenagh on 28 days last year and 38 in 2023.
