Vital blood donations clinics are taking place in Thurles this week.
It comes as the Irish Blood Transfusion Service had to import blood from the UK recently to meet growing demand for supply.
Alex O’Connor is Donor Recruitment Executive with the IBTS.
“The Irish Blood Transfusion Service have imported 270 units of the RHD Negative blood group . This was caused by the sustained surge in hospital demand. The IBTS is liaising with other blood establishments to supplement stock as necessary.
“Our recent blood donation appeal was very well supported and we’re very grateful to those who came forward. An appeal like this normally generates 2.5 days of O RhD Negative but stocks actually fell by nearly one day on this occasion.”
Clinics are being held at the Dome in Semple Stadium this evening, Wednesday and Thursday from 4.50pm to 8.10pm each day.
New donors are particularly welcome and appointments can be made on 1800 222 111.
