Local campaigners fear report into death of teenager at UHL will not go far enough

A member of the Nenagh Needs It’s A&E and the Midwest Hospital Campaign group fears a report into the death of a teenager at University Hospital Limerick will not be transparent.

The family of the 16 year old Aoife Johnston from Shannon say they are profoundly disappointed with the report of the investigation into her death after a 12 hour wait in the UHL emergency department in December 2022.

Conor Reidy told Tipp Today earlier that the report was hamstrung from the beginning.

“The Clarke report has probably been doomed from the start because of prior intervention from HSE counsel on the instruction of Bernard Gloster to tell Judge Clarke what his limitations were and to tell him that he had limitations in what he could find and not find and who he could or could not make adverse findings about

“Nothing is more important than transparency – we fear we’re not going to get transparency with this either and most importantly we fear that Aoife Johnston’s family may not get transparency either.”

Frontline staff at UHL should not be made the fall-guy in the report

Conor Reidy says doctors and nurses should not be made the scapegoat for what was a systems failure in the hospital.
