The Irish Blood Transfusion Service has issued a rallying call to donors in Tipperary.
A pre-Amber alert has been issued to all Irish hospitals urging them to conserve blood stocks.
Blood supplies are extremely low with only 2.9 days of O-Negative stock.
The national average is only 4.4 days across all blood types.
Alex O’Connor is Donor and Recruitment Executive with the IBTS.
“The Irish Blood Transfusion Service have recently issued a pre-Amber alert to all Irish hospitals. This is an instruction to hospitals to conserve their blood usage. If we are forced to move to a full Amber alert this possibly could impinge on scheduled operations in hospitals which require blood product support.”
The IBTS are holding blood donation clinics in Nenagh this week at Nenagh Scouts Hall from 4.50pm to 8.10pm each day until Thursday.
New donors are welcome and an appointment can be made on 1800 222 111.
