Proposals for a major extension to Tipperary University Hospital have been lodged with the local authority.
The application from The Health Service Executive is for a three storey extension to the hospital and temporary accommodation.
The planning application lodged with Tipperary County Council aims to improve facilities around the Emergency Department at TUH in Clonmel
The existing ED is extremely constrained while there is insufficient space for waiting and the streaming of patients.
Currently waiting space is provided in marquee accommodation located away from the ED
The existing security room and reception are also said to be inadequate while there are no rest or change facilities for the ED staff.
The extension for the Level 3 Acute Hospital on Clonmel’s Western Road includes an Emergency Department waiting area, triage rooms, offices and ancillary staff facilities.
A decision is due from Tipperary County Council on the HSE application by July 17th.
