The Health Minister expects his deadline to have the 40 bed modular unit up and running at South Tipperary General next year will be met.

Yesterday Simon Harris confirmed that 6 million euro in funding is being invested in the Premier’s health service with the bulk of the money going into the development at the Clonmel site.

While it has yet to go to planning and tendering and Minister accepts there’s a body of work ahead but speaking to Tipp FM news at the new Primary Care Centre in tipp Town yesterday he was adamant the project would in place mid 2018

Minister has no plans to move Clonmel Hospital into UL group
Meanwhile the Minister has rejected reports that South Tipperary General could be moved into the University Of Limerick Hospital Group.

The plan has sparked a furious response from politicians in Waterford, who say the loss of referrals from South Tipperary to University Hospital Waterford would accelerate the latter hospital’s decline.

However speaking to South Tipp hospital managers, consultants, campaigners and local TDs yesterday Simon Harris said such a decision rests with him and he has no plans to move the Clonmel health facility into the Mid West Group.
