The head of the HSE says there are “many positive aspects” to care at University Hospital Limerick.
Bernard Gloster told the Public Accounts Committee of his “concern” the balance of good practices at UHL “often loses out to an either/or view”.
UHL – which covers North Tipp – has been the subject of many controversies in recent years, including the care of 16-year-old Aoife Johnston, who died after waiting 13 hours for treatment in December 2022.
HSE Chief Executive Bernard Gloster says his remarks are not to hide the deserved criticism the hospital receives.
“Where warranted I have been unequivocal in some of the more difficult issues there. However again I stress that there are many positive aspects and strengths to the services at University Hospital Limerick. It is of concern to me that this balance often loses out to an either/or good or bad discourse.”
