The Irish Blood Transfusion Service is appealing to donors in Tipperary to attend vital clinics over the coming days.
Blood stocks are running low due to both the current weather conditions and the Christmas break.
IBTS donor recruitment executive Alex O’Connor says their clinics in Clonmel and Newport this week are vital to help boost supplies.
“The IBTS has issued a pre-amber alert to all Irish hospitals asking them to reduce their blood stock holding. This enables the IBTS to manage the blood supply available more effectively across the health service. If the IBTS has to issue and amber alert which is the next escalation level of this blood shortage plan it would have immediate implications for hospitals and elective surgical procedures which require blood support.”
Blood donation clinics will be held at the Talbot Hotel in Clonmel from 3:50pm – 8:10pm today and tomorrow
Also tomorrow there will be a clinic from 3.50pm to 7.10pm at the Community Centre in Newport
Appointments can be made on 1800 731 137 111.
