It’s been a busy year for Tipperary’s main hospital with a significant increase in the numbers presenting to the Emergency Department of TUH.
With an increase in respiratory problems in recent weeks there is unlikely to be any reduction over the coming days.
Hospital manager Maria Barry says they anticipate reaching a total of 50,000 ED presentations in Clonmel by the end of the year.
“Our Emergency Department activity year-on-year is increasing and year-to-date we’ve had an increase of about 8% in our Emergency Department attendances which is significant. We’re expecting that we’ll reach the 50,000 emergency presentations this year.
“I suppose the demand for the Emergency Department services nationwide is increasing as we’ve seen the population increase.”
Maria Barry has praised the efforts of the workforce at Tipperary University Hospital.
“The hospital has been very, very busy really throughout the year in all services so I would like to compliment the staff within the hospital – they’ve worked really, really hard to ensure that patients get appropriate care.
“There are times when there are long delays and there are times when we do have to restrict visiting but look I think people shouldn’t be coming to the hospital visiting if they’re unwell for any reason. Postpone your visit and come when you’re well.”
