Yesterday health watchdog HIQUA published a severely critical report into the hospital, highlighting several issues around patient safety and hygiene along with infection prevention and control.
The initial inspection on March 2nd had to be called off as major overcrowding at the Emergency Department resulted in patients being cared for in the reception area.
General Manager Maria Barry has welcomed the report by HIQA and points out that many issues were addressed in a follow up visit.
However she says South Tipp General's problems stem from a lack of bed capacity and investment in the hospital.
