Junior Minister John Halligan says he's in a 'difficult position' and is 'weighing up his options' after accusing the Government of reneging on promises to improve cardiac services at Waterford University Hospital.

Minister Halligan says the Finance Minister told him a second cath lab for Waterford would only be a formality.

He said he expects the government to stand by its commitments.

Earlier, Health Minister Simon Harris said that no extra services were recommended by a clinical review and he warned that politicians shouldn't be making medical decisions.

Minister Halligan said his future in government is in doubt if Fine Gael don't deliver on their commitment.
