There’s a guarded welcome in Tipperary for the Government’s 30 million Euro loan to An Post.

It will be repaid over 5 years with 15 million being put directly into the network.

Rural post offices in particular are under threat as the company struggles financially.

The Terryglass outlet has already fallen foul of cuts while over 30 postal workers in the Premier County are facing job losses in the New Year.

Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath says post offices need to be allowed to diversify if they’re to survive.
