Group calls for own hillwalker insurance after farmer pay-out

Both the IFA and ICSA fear the recent award of €40,000 to a hillwalker who claimed against the National Parks and Wildlife Service for injuries sustained in a fall in County Wicklow could lead to a spate of similar claims against farmers.

The ICSA say it's totally unacceptable that a farmer or landowner should find themselves facing a lawsuit through no fault of their own.

John G O'Dwyer is a founder member of the Mid-Tipp Hillwalkers – he says people using farmland or mountains for recreation should have their own insurance.
