GRA dismisses fines link to salary

The Garda Representative Association has shot down plans being considered by the Road Safety Authority to link fines to the driver’s salary.

The RSA says it’s considering a plan where a person earning 50 thousand euro would be fined as much as a thousand euro for speeding.

Details of the plan which would see the fines based on 50 percent of a person’s weekly salary rising to 150 percent of their weekly salary depending on their income.

However the GRA says it’s not the way to improve road safety.
