Government to stick with spending plans in Budget 2016

Michael Noonan and Brendan Howlin were speaking at the National Economic Dialogue at Dublin Castle.

They've insisted they must stick to tax cuts and spending increases of between €1.2 and €1.5 billion.

Minister Howlin says the scope for any giveaways will be in a few years time when the recovery has fully taken hold:

He says the hallmark of this government for the last 4½ years has been prudent management of the economy.

The Public Expenditure Minister says they're not going to put that at risk because it would undo all the hard work of the Irish people.
