Proposal to change age at which candidates can contest Presidential election

A constitutional amendment bill is to be drafted, which would change the eligibility age for election to the office of President from 35 to 21.

This is already the age at which candidates can be elected to the Dail, Seanad and European parliament.

The proposal to lower the age of eligibility for election as President was recommended by the Convention of the Constitution.
