The trial of a Cahir man accused of murdering Shane Rossiter has heard the accused admitted he 'let a shot' at the deceased.
In statements to Gardaí, Maurice Power of Dranganbeg, Kilmoyler also said it was a case of kill or be killed.
The 31 year old denies murder.
During a series of interviews with Gardai following his arrest in December 2012 the accused said there was 'serious history' between himself and Shane Rossiter which went back 7 years and adding it took a turn for the worst in 2012 as he was aware he was being set up.
Giving evidence Detective Garda Larry Burgan stated Mr Power told them he was in fear for his kids and backed into a corner.'
In previous interviews with Gardaí he told them the 29 year old said he had a hand gun – while in 2005 the deceased had stabbed him after the he caught him cheating during a game of poker. When asked to drop out hash to Shane Rossiter at the house party in Golden on the night in question Maurice Power said it didn't sound right but went anyway.
He told Gardai that once there two men he didn't know came towards him zipping up their jackets and he let a shot at Shane Rossiter adding he walked back to the house and shot him again as he knew it was a case of kill or be killed.
Mr Power said he then burnt out the car along with the clothes he was wearing and when asked by officer what weapon was used – he replied a sawn off shotgun.
