The Gleeson group has issued a statement regarding a protest at its Ballyfermot plant yesterday.

S.I.P.T.U. had linked the redundancy of 12 staff with the issue of union recognition.

However, the company, which bottles Tipperary mineral water in Borrisoleigh among other products, denies this claim.

It states that the reason for making these redundancies was the loss of a very large contract with a major retailer from the beginning of this month.

They add that M& J Gleeson & Co. continues to employ 140 people at their Ballyfermot plant.
