A missing persons report was filed just three days after he disappeared but there was no sign of him until two days ago – a full three years later – when his remains turned up in a bog in Meath.

The find was made during excavation work at Oristown Bog near Kells on Thursday.

A burnt out shell of a car was also recovered at the scene and it s understood the car was reported stolen in the Kells area in 2003.

A man in his 50 s was arrested in March last year in connection with this investigation but was released without charge the following day.

A technical and forensic examination at the scene has concluded and the investigation continues this evening.
