He'd travelled from his home in Brindly Park, Ashbourne County Meath to Virginia County Cavan.

His pregnant wife raised the alarm after he failed to return.

As part of a missing persons hunt the last place that Mr Whelan was seen had been narrowed down to an area around Lough Ramor.

At around midday yesterday a body was found there on the shores of the lake.

Detectives still can't confirm if the remains are definitely those of Joseph Whelan.
