Tipperary Gardaí are pulling no punches in relation to the behaviour of some motorists in the county during this extreme weather event.
Roads across the Premier are in a dangerous condition – including motorways and national primary roads.
However Thurles based Inspector James White says not all drivers seem to accept the dangers.
Gardaí have observed vehicles travelling between 80 and 100 kilometres per hour in treacherous conditions.
“Quite frankly I just can’t understand it. People are either blind or they’re stupid and that’s being blunt about it. I’m not going to dress it up. Because take one look around you – look at what’s in front of you. Everywhere you look there’s snow, then we had freezing conditions last night and we’re going to have more over the next few days.
“If you try and stop your car in those conditions its going to take quite a considerable longer distance than it does in normal conditions. And if you’re travelling at speed when you do that the potential for an accident and a pile up on the motorway….so my appeal to people is to please, please slow down.”
