It’s part of a national day of action by the force similar to focused campaigns on seat belts and mobile phones.
Sgt Carol O’Leary from Cahir Garda Station told Tipp Today earlier that the vast majority of motorists will have nothing to fear.
However the small minority of law breakers will be targeted.
“A certain demographic will pay for insurance by instalments. They think they’re cute enough that they can set up the monthly direct debit – they get their insurance cert and then they cancel the insurance thinking ‘happy days I have an insurance disc on my car and the Guards won’t cop it’. We cop it.
“We have the Automatic Number Plate Recognition and our mobile phone devices can tell you it was taken out on this date and cancelled on this date. So we had one gentleman that we dealt with recently who had done that three times.”
