Retired Tipp Garda honoured for bravery

A retired Garda has been honoured for rescuing a woman from the River Suir nearly 40 years ago.

Mick Power was one of seven Gardaí in the Southern Region presented with Scott Medal Commendations for their bravery and courage shown in the course of their duties while responding to incidents.

Garda Power was on duty in Cahir on February 21st 1988 when he rescued a woman from the River Suir.

His Scott Medal citation says he displayed exceptional courage and bravery, where there was a risk to life in the execution his duty, in rescuing the woman.
