A contractor has been appointed for the new base on the former Kickham Barracks site in the town.

The current station on Emmet Street is accepted as being not fit for purpose with a move awaited to a new Garda Community Engagement HQ for the Tipperary South Area.

The matter was raised in the Dáil by Clonmel TD Michael Murphy with Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan.

“I’ve been told by my Department that a contract has been signed in respect of the Clonmel Garda station which as you know is badly needed. I’m also told it will be finished by the end of 2026 which is very good news.”
