Among the many vehicles detected travelling above the speed limit was one doing 153 km/h in a 120 zone on the M7 near Nenagh.

Garda Jamie Ryan is with the Tipperary Roads Policing Unit.

“We are on the road 365 days a year so for us every day is National Slow Down Day but these days in particular are to raise conversations with the public. Just to remind them that we are out and about.

“So the purpose of this operation is to proactively promote the importance of driving within the posted speed limit and at speeds that are appropriate to the conditions. Driving at lower speeds gives you more time to react to unexpected hazards you may face on the road.”
