Rank and file Gardaí in Tipperary say its only through good fortune that members of the force have not been seriously injured in the Division.
The local GRA representative says things have gotten worse within the force over the last 12 months.
The Garda Representative Association annual conference is taking place in Killarney with pay, staffing, and safety set to dominate discussions.
Commissioner Drew Harris, who steps down in September, was not invited to attend.
Divisional GRA rep Richard Kennedy told Tipp Today earlier that the lack of Gardaí in the Division is a huge concern.
“It’s frightening at the moment just how much overtime is being used just to keep (Garda) cars on the streets. The amount of time there’s not cars in big towns like Roscrea, Carrick on Suir, Templemore – totally lacking in Garda cover. You have members stretched driving 30 or 40 minutes to calls.
“It’s frightening how little cover is out there for members at the moment. Its only through pure luck we haven’t had members seriously injured around the Division over the last twelve months due to lack of support and lack of back-up.”
