A major road safety campaign is in operation across Tipperary for the Bank Holiday weekend.
Gardaí will be carrying out speed checks over the coming days as well as watching out for phone use and driving under the influence.
Tipperary Superintendent Eddie Golden says the statistics so far this year show a worrying trend.
“When I looked at the stats for the first quarter – half of our fatalities were drivers and two-thirds of the fatalities were single vehicle collisions.
“Serious injuries have almost halved compared to this time last year which is a positive and our fatal collisions were roughly in line with the average for the previous five years.
“Historically the Bank Holiday weekends fatalities are quite prevalent.
