Willie Lynch – his partner Tara Gilbert; their children Jodie and Kelsey; and Willie’s brother Jimmy are all being laid to rest following this afternoon's requiem mass in Bray.
Hundreds of people have gathered at the church and along the town's main street to pay their respects to the young family.
Five hearses carried the bodies of 25-year-old Willie Lynch; his 27-year-old partner Tara; their children 4-year-old Kelsey and 9-year-old Jodie; and Willie’s brother, 39-year-old Jimmy, to the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer in Bray’s town centre.
They are the first five victims of the fire 10 days ago at the halting site on Glenamuck Road in Carrickmines to be mourned at a funeral mass.
Large crowds of people from Ireland and Great Britain have made the journey to attend today’s service – which is being celebrated by Fr Derek Farrell of the Parish of the Travelling People.
After the funeral – the five will be laid to rest at Springfield Cemetery.
The funerals of Willie and Jimmy’s sister Sylvia Connors; her husband Thomas and their three children Jim, Christy and Mary will be held in Dublin on Thursday – ahead of burial in Wexford on Friday.
